Bertha Mae’s Diamonds (BMD) is a youth mentoring program that empowers inner-city youth ages 6–17 through guidance, identity development, and emotional transformation. We believe every “Diamond” (youth) needs a “Bertha Mae” a loving mentor to help them shine.
Our program is open to youth ages 6–17 in Baltimore City and surrounding areas. We welcome both boys and girls, divided into age-based groups: Little Diamonds, Growing Diamonds, and Polished Diamonds. Our partner mentoring company, Boys 2 Men "B2M" Mentoring, services all male clients.
You can complete our Interest Form directly on the website. After submission, a member of our team will contact you to process your application.
We provide bi-weekly workshops, mentoring sessions, field trips, creative projects, community service opportunities, and special events designed to build confidence, leadership, and life skills.
There is no cost to participate in our core mentoring program. Some trips or special events may require minimal fees, but we work hard to ensure cost is never a barrier to participation.
There are several ways to help! You can volunteer as a mentor, donate school supplies or resources, sponsor events, or contribute financially. Every bit of support helps our Diamonds shine brighter.
The program is named after our founder’s grandmother, Bertha Mae, who raised her with wisdom, love, and strength. The name reflects our belief that every young person deserves someone who will guide and nurture them like a “Bertha Mae.”
Programming happens once a month, with occasional special events, trips, and community activities throughout the year. Mentors meet with Diamonds twice a month.
Absolutely! We encourage family involvement and often host events that celebrate togetherness. Parents are vital to the growth of every Diamond.
