ABOUT BERTHA MAES

Hi, I’m Kiarra Gilmore, the Founder and Executive Director of Bertha Mae’s Diamonds. This work is personal to me—I created BMD to honor the wisdom of my grandmother, Bertha Mae, who helped shape the woman I am today. Growing up as “Diamond,” I learned early on the power of guidance, love, and resilience.

I know what it feels like to face challenges, and I also know the transformation that happens when someone believes in you. That’s why I’m dedicated to creating safe, empowering spaces where youth can grow into their full potential. Through mentoring, storytelling, and community, Bertha Mae’s Diamonds helps young people shine through their struggles and discover their brilliance.

Every part of this journey is rooted in love, faith, and legacy. My mission is simple: to turn brokenness into brilliance and make sure that every Diamond has a Bertha Mae to guide them.

I’m grateful you’re here—whether you’re a parent, mentor, supporter, or future Diamond, welcome to the family.

The program is named after our founder’s grandmother, Bertha Mae, who raised her with wisdom, love, and strength. The name reflects our belief that every young person deserves someone who will guide and nurture them like a “Bertha Mae.”
